For the recognition of nationality, it is necessary to prove Portuguese descent, and for this you must present birth, baptism, marriage or death certificates of your Portuguese ancestor.

 

Oftentimes, finding these certificates is not an easy task, especially if the document is prior to 1911, when the records relating to citizens were carried out in churches or parishes in the neighborhoods, as the Civil Registry Offices did not yet exist.

 

To facilitate the search for certificates, we have to collect as much information as possible, such as:

 

• Portuguese citizen's full name;

• Approximate date or year of birth;

• Parent's name;

• Birth place.
